The Congolese rapper has released a cut from Na Zala Zala, his debut album alongside The Congo Techno Ensemble, slated for a July 16 release.
Nyege Nyege Tapes is the debut album from Rey Sapienz & The Congo Techno Ensemble. The founder of Hakuna Kulala, the Ugandan collective’s sub-label, Rey Sapienz is a key rapper in The Congo, now residing in Uganda, where he collaborates with local producers. The artist was forced to extend his stay in the neighboring country due to the civil war, where he now teaches Ableton skills to young producers in Kampala.
His album, Na Zala Zala, will feature the traditional percussionist Papalas Palata and the rapper Fresh Dougis, with whom he formed The Congo Techno Ensemble. The objective of this initiative is to evoke the past, present and future of the Democratic Republic of Congo through radioactive techno-dancehall rhythms with “open and radical rhymes.” With a joyful yet alarming soundscape, “Eza Makambo” leads us to the path of appeasement, reflecting their concerns about the future of their native country and their hope for peace.
Pre-order Na Zala Zala before July 16, via Nyege Nyege Tapes.
